Researchers at the Johns Hopkins MalariaResearch Institute have genetically modifieda bacterium commonly found in themosquito’s midgut and found that theparasite that causes malaria in people doesnot survive in mosquitoes carrying themodified bacterium. The bacterium, Pantoeaagglomerans, was modified to secreteproteins toxic to the malaria parasite, butthe toxins do not harm the mosquito orhumans. With the study, Jacobs-Lorena and his colleaguesfound that the engineered P. agglomerans strainsinhibited development of the deadliest humanmalaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum and rodentmalaria parasite Plasmodium berghei by up to 98percent within the mosquito.Researchers demonstrate the use of an engineered symbioticbacterium to interfere with the development of P.falciparum in the mosquito. These findings providethe foundation for the use of genetically modifiedsymbiotic bacteria as a powerful tool to combatmalaria.Culled from: Genetically EngineeredBacteria Prevent Mosquitoesfrom Transmitting Malaria http/:www.jhsph.edu/news/news-releases/2012/jacobs-lorena-bacteria.html

An obviously tired German bank employee fell asleep on his keyboard and
accidentally transformed a minor transfer into a 222 million euro ($293
million) order, a court heard Monday.
The Hessen labour court heard that the man was supposed to transfer just
62.40 euros from a bank account belonging to a retiree, but instead "fell
asleep for an instant, while pushing onto the number 2 key on the keyboard"
-- making it a huge 222,222,222.22 euro order.
The bank discovered the mistake shortly afterwards and corrected the error.
The case was taken to court by the man's 48-year-old colleague w... more »

LK4 And Koketso Evicted From Big Brother Africa
Having had two weeks of a love connection, with a few forces against their
partnership, LK4 and Koketso have left The Chase tonight. South Africa’s
Koketso didn’t even know that she was nominated. She had been placed on the
chopping block by Selly who preferred saving Biguesas from Eviction.
The Ugandan Prince said a prayer earlier this evening before the Rubies had
their dinner. Koketso was at his side as always, holding her man’s hand as
he emotionally thanked the Almighty for the time spent with ‘friends’ and
how much the BBA opportunity meant to him.

"I Wasted Six Years Of My Life With Jim Iyke"- Keturah Hamilton
These days, I ask God: Why has thou forsaken me? How can a man with
whom we had gone through the highs and the lows – a man who had
professed so much undying love for me over the past six years just walk
away like that? I don’t know what happened and I wish I could put a
finger on it. He took away six years of memories, of support of love and
all that I did for him – just like that. How mean and callous can one
get?
Jim was supposed to come to New York and stay for six months, during which time, he would go to an acting school here in New York and then we would move to Los Angeles and get married and pursue our acting dreams. I was looking forward to that with eagerness and then he just walked away” she began to sob according to Diasporan Star
Asked what could have been the reason for such a change of heart, Keturah said “we had problems like normal lovers do, but we always resolved them amicably. I know there was something Jim asked me to do, which I didn’t want to do right away, but that should not have made him to do what he did.” Pressed to reveal what it was that Jim wanted him to do, she said it was personal.
Keturah said she feels used and dumped “I played along in the reality show as if I truly was a jealous and crazy lover. It was an act, but now I feel as if Jim set me up. He is a wicked man. I stood by him through all his troubles and tribulations. I helped bring him to the limelight when the light of his career was dimming. He is an ingrate and I leave him to God.”
One area that seems to have pained Keturah more appears to be the rumor making the rounds that Jim left her for the Ghanaian actress Nadia Buari. “That is the rumor I have heard and I know it is not just a rumor. They have been hooking up in Ghana. They were together at Tuface’s wedding and appear to be everywhere together. I just can’t believe Jim would be this ungrateful – after all I have done for him. I have not been able to accept this and I am truly in a state of shock. If Jim could treat me the way he did, after six years of being there for him, supporting him, encouraging him in all that he did, then I wish Nadia the best of luck.”
Jim according to sources is living in Nadia’s house in Ghana and is constantly seen driving her car on the streets of Accrathe Ghanaian capital. He is said to have told friends he and Nadia are mere friends, but most people find that difficult to believe.
Meanwhile, Keturah appears to have moved on with her life. “I am a strong woman and I am moving ahead with my life. God cannot give you that which He will not provide you the platform to stand and deal with. I wish the best in his life.”

Malaria
Malaria is caused by a parasite called Plasmodium, which is
transmitted via the bites of infected mosquitoes. In the human body, the
parasites multiply in the liver, and then infect red blood cells.
Symptoms of malaria include fever, headache, and vomiting, and usually appear between 10 and 15 days after the mosquito bite. If not treated, malaria can quickly become life-threatening by disrupting the blood supply to vital organs. In many parts of the world, the parasites have developed resistance to a number of malaria medicines.
Key interventions to control malaria include: prompt and effective treatment with artemisinin-based combination therapies; use of insecticidal nets by people at risk; and indoor residual spraying with insecticide to control the vector mosquitoes.

SOLUTION
1. let my age be x
Since my brother is 3 years older, than we have
(x + 3) years
His age last years: (x+3) -1 years
(x +3 -1)years
Ans = B
2. From the name, let Abu, Kayode and Uche,s
share A, K and U respectively.
Since Abu has twice as Kayode: A = 2k
= > K= -A/2
By putting the value of K in k, we have A/2
Therefore A/2 x ½ = A/4
Total share: A + A/2x = A/4 #140,000
4A + 2A +A = A #140,000
4
7A = _ # 140,000

Malaria Parasite
Researchers have discovered how a protein affects red blood cells
when malaria infects a human host, which could aid in determining new
strategies to fight the disease.
The protein, called RESA, causes cell membranes to stiffen within 24 hours of infection. This rigidity impairs the ability of a red blood cell to travel through blood vessels, researchers at MIT, the Institut Pasteur and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology report.
The new discovery is the first time that scientists have determined RESA’s specific role in modulating blood circulation.
“The new work combines the latest advances in genetics, microfabrication, nanomechanics and computational modeling by bringing together interdisciplinary and international teams,” Subra Suresh, the senior author of the paper and a former dean of the MIT School of Engineering and Vannevar Bush professor of engineering, said.
The researchers determined that while the infected cells would still be able to slip into the spleen undetected, RESA’s effects on membrane stiffness and deformability were enhanced by fever temperatures. At the increase temperatures, the cell membrane was stabilized so that it wouldn’t disintegrate.
The study, which appears in the Aug. 30 online journal Scientific Reports, was coordinated by MIT’s Ming Dao, a principal research scientist in the department of materials science and engineering, Monica Diez silva, a research scientist in DMSE, and YongKeun Park, an assistant professor of physics at KAIST.

NAMA ground Gov. Oshiomoile's Helicopter

Rotimi Amaechi’s experience with authorities of the Nigeria Airspace
Management Authority, when his plane was not allowed to take-off from Akure Airport, Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State suffered a similar fate on Friday, as Nigeria’s airspace authorities forced him to abort the burial ceremony of the wife of Senator Ben Obi. The scheduled helicopter flight was forced to return to Benin Airport for clearance. The chopper was meant to fly Oshiomhole’s to Awka, Anambra State, to attend the burial ceremony of Obi’s late wife, scheduled for 10am.
